Dinner in the Dark at Big Apple Circus is a co-creation of Abigails Kitchen and the Big Apple Circus inspired by the desire to increase empathy and awareness among people with diverse ways of perceiving our world. Both sighted and non-sighted guests will be immersed in a dining experience like no other, in which they must activate all senses other than sight.
When guests arrive at Lincoln Center, they will be given blindfolds and taken on a touch tour. Guest who are sighted, low vision or blind will experience dinner with enhanced sensory perception, relying on their sense of touch, smell, taste and hearing.
After Dinner in the Dark, join us under the Big Top where guests may continue to expand their listening skills with a live audio description of the Big Apple Circus.
A few things to know:
Diners wear comfortable blindfolds throughout the event. The dining area is not dark.
Menus are secret until the end of the meal so naturally guests have fun guessing which food and wine is on the plate and in the glass.
Any dietary restrictions can be accommodated. When you purchase your tickets you will be prompted to tell us of any allergies or dislikes.
Pricing is all-inclusive (food, wine, performance and gratuity).
On arrival, we give you an orientation and answer questions before leading you into the ring with your blindfold on.
After dinner, guests receive infrared headsets through which one hears a live audio description of the circus.
